In 1993 COCAITH applied to the Department of Family Services and Aboriginal Affairs, through the Domestic Violence Initiative Program, for recurrent funding to establish a Domestic Violence Resource Service in Townsville to service both Townsville and the Northern region. Funding for the service was approved in 1994, and the North Queensland Domestic Violence Resource Service came into being and began formal operations in June of that year. In 2003 the NQDVRS took on an extra office in Mount Isa.
